    Where does this go???

So I was taking off my cylinder head on my 85 325e and this little guy was in cylinder 4

Now it is NOT one of the 2 guides for the HG and Cylinder Head and it pretty much fits into any of the cylinder head bolt holes

What is it for and/or do I need it????

NOTE: There was never a "Marble in can" sound before I took the head off so this "sleeve" was installed somewhere

Help!!! I want to get my baby back on the road!!

That looks like a dowel. There are two of those, one towards the front of the engine and one towards the back. There purpose is to correctly align the head with the block. You need both dowels.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

^ He mentioned in the first post that is was not one of the 2 locating dowels.

it's smaller than the dowels...and it's just like how a dowel would be.

no numbers, it's metal, it's small...it's annoying me

I realize that is what he said, but that is what it looks like. If it was underneath the head and there isn't marks on a piston it would have had to have been being used as a dowel. Will a head bolt fit through it?

Doesn't the intake manifold have a centering dowel too?
