Do either of you have any pics of the heating elements close up? I want to do the same to my m42 after I get my head rebuilt.

one is between the throttle body and the intake manifold and one attaches to the bottom of the TB

You can just plug them up and modify your hoses accordingly. Some m42s didn't have the heating set up. I only have a large pic of the modified hose setup. This is just the "beta" where I was making sure it could still fit one of the plugs at the bottom the the intake bellow. I chose the aft hole over the fore hole. Click for high res The image shows how it exactly sits in the engine bay if you're standing by the d.side fender.
If my memory serves me right, there are 3 holes at the bottom of a heated TB. the 2 small ones are for the coolant inlet and return and the biggest one upfront is part of the vacuum set up.

              What the hell is that?

Remember those pipes need to flow into the head also!

              Sorry bad mood ;)

Can't tell e-sarcasm or if you're questioning the pic.

The left section goes into the crankcase on the front side of the as it is pictured. The middle section is connected to the TB via the "big nipple" on one side and the other part plugs into the bottom of the intake bellow. THe right section connects to the intake manifold at the rear via the sensor (I have forgotten what it's called)

Anyhew, a "u pipe" allows the coolant to flow in and out of the head. The "u pipe" is what fed the TB so it's simply running the coolant around in a loop without involving the TB.

In that first pic you have created a loop, no water will even get in there!

The metal U that is shown is correct, but in the other side of it there should be two straght rubber hoses that connect to the head.

How many throttle body heaters did you have?

This is hard to explain without pictures. I'll take some pictures next time. Where you see the U-pipe which has been capped, I took another U-pipe and allowed the coolant to circulate, so it's now seperate of the vacuum set up

Bear in mind that there is slight variation with the hose design setup and heating elements for e30 m42s. What production year is yours?

There's only one throttle body heater with an inlet and outlet on the intake assembly.

OH i see, i have the later engine with two heater ellements, this is why mines was easy to take out, as one would use the redundant pipes to make one straght one.

I took some pics of the TB. When at WOT the butterfiles are almost fully horizontal and parallel depending on which angle you look at them. It appears as yours are normal.
