My 1986 325e...and driver side door locking assembly.

Today I took on my driver side door lock rebuild, it's been a long time coming. Literally, the driver side door lock has had a key in it for 24 years. With that in mind, the factory key has managed to sort of solidify itself in the cylinder. This made for a very difficult attempt at removing the broken section of key. I received my door lock rebuild kit from Pelican Parts, and began the process of building my new cylinder. This process had a slightly different procedure, with the key being stuck, this presented a challenge. I was able to remove the first 4 wafers from the top of the cylinder; however, I had to cut both ends of the cylinder off in order to remove the key. The pictures below shed light on my previously mentioned handywork. I was able to remove the remaining wafers at that point, which allowed me to build the new cylinder accordingly. With the cylinder newly build, I placed the assembly back in the cylinder opening. I had my fingers crossed...and I was let down, the key was able to be inserted fully, and turned freely. However, no locking or unlocking function was taking place, I did notice activity with door lock pin that goes up and down, depending on lock/unlock. This activity was hesitant at best, this lead me to theorize. My best guess is that since the door lock actuator has been out of commission for 20+ years, has caused the actuator to go bad. Again, any advice, experience, or opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

    See here.
Be aware however that the diagram showing the order of the tumblers #1 - 11 in linked page is backward. Tumbler #1 is closest to the exterior of the car. #11 is farthest from handle of key.

Here are some documents I've copied from my travels on the web.
    1. BMW Lock Rebuild I cannot explain that garbage in the first two paragraphs.
    2. BMW e30 Driver's Lock Cylinder repair

Your pictures do not show the Locking Arm or the Double Lock mechanism. Are they attached to the lock cylinder and interfaced correctly to the arms in the door?

Well, that answered my question on how to get the chrome cover off to get a broken key out. YOU DON'T. Thanks.
