    stiffness baur vs regular vert??

As implied, wanted knowledge on the extra stiffness afforded by the Baur targa - no info readily available - any knowledge on baur appreciated ie quirks common to baur etc?? thank you

It's always been my understanding that since Baur's were built from sedans that they lacked the chassis reinforcement that the BMW produced verts had. Baur probably did some reinforcing of their own but not to the extent of the factory convertible.

I concur with this opinion. Not really sure how much they could have actually done as far as added reinforcement though. Just the fact that you have steel going all the way around the car should at least help with any twisting of the frame that might occur.

I thought that the convertible was the basis for this targa - so this would mean that reinforcement already exist PLUS the targa skeleton??? The sedan versions were hideous .... I saw a few for sale and would not go there. The targa though holds some allure for me especially if I can confirm the extra rigidity (was thinking of turning it into an e30 m3 convertible, with the panels etc) and if not just stick with a normal vert and add a roll bar ....

No, Baur was converting E30's before BMW started making their own E30 convertibles. Just use a proper convertible. They are certainly more of them so you can find one cheap.

Maybe if you write mythbusters they will go out and find the two cars and build a machine to twist them? I mean its not the first time they destroyed an E30

Ok - thank you - not exactly gonna benefit me if I already know. I wanted to bring some back from my trip to Germany and wanted to know. Now I know but will look into further re inforcing a regular vert without losing the rear seats. Weissman hardtop .. NEVER seen one live before. This has got to be the best investments for an e30 vert...
