Want to remove surface rust on caliper

Anyone have insite on this. I have a good amount of surface rust no the calipers and would like to clean them off before I paint them with VHT caliper paint. Should I be bothered... I would think leaving the rust would make the paint job look textured... maybe I'm wrong.

    Thanks

Just clean them well with a wire brush and brake cleaner. The surface is texured anyways from the cast metal. The rust is just a surface coat.

        They'll look fine.

if you have a air compressor you can buy a hand held sand blaster. They don't work quite as well though.

I used a small media blaster from Harbor freight it was around $30, just have to hook it up to a Air compressor, it worked realy good for cleaning up the calipers for my car.

Another vote for wire brush and brake cleaner.

If you can find a wholesale detailing supplies place, you can get some acid used for cleaning chrome wheels (usually some mixture of hydrofluoric acid and hydrochloric acid), that will work well too.

They sell that mag cleaning acid at Baxter's as well. I almost bought some. but HF is the first ingredient on the label and that shit is scarey.

I'm just going to go at it with my trusty metal brush. Picked up some VHT Cast Aluminum Brake/Drum/Caliper paint... this shit is going to look good 8)

Navel Rust Jelly...Havn't used it on rotors - but worked decently on my m30 block that had some rust on the exhaust side of the block. Keep the stuff avay from alunimum though.

And it might take longer then what the time on the bottle says.
