Question: Oil Pan Gasket Replacement m20b25

I want to change the oil pan gasket on my 1990 525i. Chilton says nothing about loosening motor mounts or removing subframe to drop the oil pan. I've been told different things. Anyone know factually whether the subframe needs to be removed or engine lifted prior to removing oil pan? Thanks.

I have seen it done at a shop a few times. They use an engine support to hold the engine in place while they lower the subframe enough to get the pan out. I imagine it's the same for the E34. What type of gasket are you using?
