    Motor Oil?

I have a 1987 325is. it has nearly 160,000 miles on it, and i was wondering if anyone recommends a good oil to use on it. it tends to burn a little every month or so.

Just use some 20w 50 Castrol or Valvoline

Don't switch to Synthetic as suggested above

I'm still struggling with this decision.

          20w-50 Regular or 15w-50 / 15w-40 Synthetic?

Now I've heard that you should not use Sythetic on any car with high mileage (over 75k) because the detergents it has in it will clean the gunk in old seals and cause them to start leaking.

I recently replaced almost every possible seal on my engine and after doing so would it be kosher to use Synthetic?? I've been using Royal Purple for some time now in my Mitsu and I love it. I would like to use it in the bimmer if warranted.

I run 15W50 Mobile 1 Synthetic in my car, however I replaced all the gaskets and seals.

On a stock motor I would stick with 20W50 Organic Castrol GTX

No need to using anything else.

what are ya'll thoughts on Mobil 1 15w-50 extended performance synthetic.

I recently had to use this b/c the store ran out of the regular synthetic stuff. Are there more detergents in the extended performance?

BTW I switched to synthetic everything on my 325i with 124K miles and haven't had any trouble with leaks. Just a few drips here and there.

I use synth on the M42, and I'm pretty convinced you should.

But this is an M20 thread, so I'll go back to my happy M42 corner.

20w-50 Castrol GTX, Havoline, and Chevron Supreme are excellent dino oils for the money! Good for upto 5K mile oil change intervals.

I use mobil 1 15w-50 in my 85 eta with 240k for about 30k, still good, and I'm using it in my 90 325i with 140k. Gives me piece of mind when I'm beating the shit out of the motor. If something leaks, replace the seal.
