    urgent: crank case ventilation

can someone explain the factory crank case ventilation system to me?

my current setup has a pipe from the cam cover to a catch can, then a line from the catch can to a inlet on the throttle body.

my motor has developed a fairly serious oil leak(s) in the last 2000km since the simplified crank case system was installed. i am wondering if there is a build of pressure in crank and its pushed a seal?

prior to the revised setup it hasn't used a drop.

The original configuration has a hose running from the valve cover to the throttle body. Unless the catch can or a hose is plugged what is on the car now won't be the cause of the oil leak as it is essentially the same as the factory configuration.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Unless your catch can is sealed to the atmosphere (not vented), you have created a massive vacuum leak.

Not in this case. The valve cover and throttle body are connected to the catch can. I presume the catch can has no other vents.

I did not presume, hence my comment. OP is the one that knows the answer.

True! But I can't remember seeing a catch can that had a third vent.

nope there isn't a vacuum leak, the system is closed.

in any case it sounds like the breather system is doing the right thing and oil leaks are a coincidence. i'm heading to a mates workshop shortly to investigate.

i have a great deal of experience with pulling apart subaru's and putting them back together, this is my first dalliance with bavarian toys...

              cheers gents

where abouts is the leak generating from?

My guess would be you've popped the oring on the crankcase vent tube that runs from the block to the bottom of the intake manifold.
