so if the air temp is around 35 to 40 degrees and the car has bin sitting all night, can it be started and moved a couple feet or so, maybe 45 seconds of run time and still be considered cold to the point where i can use the 010 guage?

cold valve adjustment should be with some resistance on the feeler gauge. The hot valve adjustment should be a loose 011. I don't think 45 sec is going to heat the head up enough to make the rockers hot.sigpicComment

cant drive it in the night before. wont have driveway till the morning and it's an uphill grade. was just wondering if 30 seconds or so of run time on an ice cold motor would make it considered hot. or could i still use .010sigpicComment

you can still leave it in gear and let the hill do the pushing for you. I don't understand what's so difficult about not starting the car.
besides. you're going to put on the valve cover each time to move it a few feet? even though it's only a few nuts seems a bit stupid.
edit: oh, you WANT to do this in your driveway? lol it takes like 30 minutes if that... you need literally 3 tools.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

this is my first time doing this even though im an old head. not happy w/ the results. must have screwed one up. sounds like 1 or 2 are still to loud. will do it again next week. the hard part for me is that i have partial amputation of both thumbs and my right for finger. makes it hard as shit to get to some of the harder to reach areas like under the cold start valve. anyone around capemay nj wana lend a hand, i'll get the beer and lunch.sigpicComment

so guys, how much tension/resistance should i be feeling on the guage .010 doing a cold adjustment? loose, only feeling the guage touching both sides, or tight, with more substantial resistance. i set them w/ light resistance and they are chattery still.sigpicComment
