Megasquirt 1 vs 2. Looking for experiences.

Well If you read my introduction post in the general forum you will see that my build must be of the lowest cost possible. Now I know, its ONLY 130 ish more for MS2 and it has higher resolution tables and what not. HOWEVER.

Is it really necessary, will the car run much better on a MS2 setup?

I will be going gt30, controlling fuel to start with ignition control coming shortly after. I have scoured the interwebs for answers but haven't found the answers i'm looking for.

Will MS1 get me running reliably and smoothly? If there isn't any huge reason to go MS2, I won't. However if there is something I am missing, let me know.

I know, I mean yea its only $260 for MS2, but I can get MS1 for $130! I just want to know if MS2 is necessary, or if MS1 will do the job just fine.

Sorry, messed up on my price quote. $203 for ms1. I remember seeing 130 somewhere but it may not have been the complete kit.

Anyway, no plans to boost until the suspension is running, I'm just trying to get all my ducks in order and learn as much as I can about the MS system before the turbo goes on. I have some tuning experience with HPtuners but never from the ground up.

don't even bother with MS1, IMO. I've been running various versions of MS for several years now. especially given the low price difference.

especially given part of your build is going to be setup and tuning. that has a cost, and it's going to be easier with MS2.

                I agree with nando.

you're not going to have the same amount of table resolution as well as the extra features that MS2 has... like idle control.

you can check out that table. If you see something that you want in MS2 that isn't in MS1 it's worth it just to go with MS2. Unless someone is giving you an MS1 box for like $20.

Either way, go with the extra firmware. :)

I'm holding out. Just gathering information for when I make the jump. I already have a gt3071r w/ tial 38mm v-band gate waiting to go on...

I want to get a good suspension/wheel setup first, as well as new bushings all around. Turbo will be the last item on the list.

                        Thanks again for the responses.

I am very happy to find that MS will control my methanol pump as well, being that my controller took a crap on me on the way back from H20 this year.
