Removing/replacing hvac slider cables

I had to remove my stereo after the accident before they impounded it and broke the panel where the switches for hazarrd/defog/whatever go.

I bought a new panel and now need to remove the old one. I am stuck at the slider cables. How do I get them off the one in tha car & how do I put them back on the new one?

Pull the 3 vent knobs off, and then the flat panel with the 3 slots in it can be pulled away to reveal 4 screws that hold the cable assembly to the panel.
