broken fin blower motor okay to run?

One of the fins on the cage for my blower motor I bought is broken. Also the outside ring that is connected to the fins has a gap because of the fin being broken.

Will it be okay to run? I just bought it used from on here but checking it was safe to run before I install it.

The blower will probably make noise and vibrate. With part of the squirrel cage missing, the rest will soon disintegrate from imbalance. Kind of not the effort to change.

Why don't you install your old cage on the new motor you purchased, The vibration and noise will drive you crazy if you install the broken one.

I've heard of and witnessed people superglue a cracked bird cage back together on these cars with 0 issues.

Use at your discretion though.

Not to pick nits, but the arrow you drew points at the resisters for selecting fan speed. They are attached to the brown piece of plastic shown and that can be replaced separately from the motor/fan assembly. But Nando is right, the fan blades are pretty much permanently attached to the motor shaft

It sounds like you have pieces missing, so the super glue solution may not work.

I just fixed this over the weekend with a part I pulled from a local junkyard (Crazy Rays in Jessup MD). They had a second E30 that as of Saturday looked like it still had the blower in it. Depending on where you are in VA, you might be able to grab that one.

With the fan broken, it can also distort while spinning and rub the inside of the housing, possibly cutting into it/melting it.

There are 3 e30s at Crazy Ray's in Baltimore (out on "the Point"). All three of them appeared to have the entire HVAC system intact.

And if you go there, pull 2 blower fans. I need one too, and didn't even think about it when I was there on Monday, dammit.

just a heads up from the photo you posts you have a different blower motor than the one pictured above.

there are 2 types of blower motors over the years, seems to be based on what type of heater core you have.

Z3 blower motors fit e30's...Just did it and saved a ton over trying to find a worn out e30 blower selling for more than it was worth....Just FYI
