Cruise Control and Cluster Lighting Problems

Randomly half the lights in my cluster don't work, the left half to be exact. I checked the bulbs and they are fine... wtf? Also, which female connector on the green plug does the cruise control wire go into? (on the back of the cluster)(85 325e) 1st down 2nd down or 3rd down? The second one down has a "A" next to it.

    Thanks,

    -Nathan

    EDIT: added clarification...

You have a loose connection or bad solder joint somewhere in the cluster for those lights.

The green pin is the one most toward the fuel guage and in the bottom row closest to the main bulk of the cluster.

That made no sense to me. There is a green connector, in it are several spots for wires to plug into. There are three identical spots, and only one of which is for the cruise control, which one is it? Looking at the back of the cluster with the clips at the top, they are on the right side of the green connector. They are lined up vertically. So which one is it? 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?

Damn, I was hoping it wasn't something internal in the cluster. I hate taken those apart...

      Thanks for the help!

Pick any one, they are all tied to the same circuit

Beat me to it; but yea. My post was referring to the one that it comes in from the factory though.

Do you know what any of the other connectors were originally designed for? Always wondered =)

Anyway, cruise control problems are fun to fix. Check the following

Make sure the BRAKE light is not on (on your check panel, if it is cruise won't work)

Under the knee bolster, round connector going out the firewall grommet, make sure that is nice and tight (goes to the CC Servo)

Above the ECU is the Cruise computer, make sure everything is nice and tight.

Basicaly check all the connections. When I installed cruise in my car (before I removed it again lol) I had it work for about a month until the CC ECU randomly went out. Simply had to replace that and it came alive.

If you don't get it working, i'd be more the happy to bring my box of cruise parts down to Mots when I'm back down there in 2 weeks.

              Lemme know =)

It seems to me that there wasn't anything above my ECU. I've had it out like 20 times. How "above" is it?

If I don't have one, do you have an extra?

                Thanks James

Above and to the left a little bit IIRC, its kinda burried in there.

its a small silver box with a blue connector going into it (same kind of connector that you use on the back of the instrument cluster)

I have a few spare CC ECU's, I can bring one down if need be.

I have replaced everything but the ecu & switch. I have a new switch waiting to put in when I get the car back. If that is not it how much do you want for a cc computer?
