Gas Pedal sticking - not the cable?

    Hey guys,

I did a search and I could not find a thread with these specific symptoms.

My gas pedal split in two and I am in the middle of replacing it.

I have been driving around with the broken gas pedal for the last 2 weeks and it has been a bit annoying but driveable. I've now replaced the pedal and the throttle seems to stick.

It is definitely not due to the cable as it was working fine with the broken gas pedal - is it possible I've screwed something up or is this common when the pedal is new and therefore very stiff at the top and bottom?

    Cheers.
    Leo.

Did you actually buy a new cable, or did you get a used junkyard one?

I would check to see if it is binding at the throttle body or maybe where it passes through the firewall. It shouldn't bind or stick if it is new. Used one do where though and stick, regardless of cleaning/lubing sometimes.

The plastic pivots on the shaft- suppose it could be binding there.

But there are a lot of places that are more likely. It's not the carpet pushing on it, is it?

The plastic hinge at the bottom should help hold it in the retracted 'off- throttle' position,
      if anything.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

I have not replaced the cable, the original one was absolutely ok, the problem originally was my broken pedal.

I've just noticed that the bottom of the pedal is not properly pushed in properly but I've tried really hard to push it down - whats the best method to install it? I placed the top part on the hinge first and then tried to push it down into the metal clip down on the floor but it doesn't seem to go all the way down?

        Just apply more force?

Tamp it down with a little hammer action.

and try a little greaseless lube on the pin on the back of the pedal.

            clean your throttle body.
