California Emissions Eprom Recall; detuned ? '87 eta

1987 325e completely stock. After 4 years I just noticed this sticker under my hood.
Does anyone know what this recall did to the ECU chip ? I'm trying to get a MarkD chip, but there is a backlog of the 24 pin chips.
Question is. Would I be better off with a stock chip for the 027 DME from a non California car than what I have now ?
    Thanks.
P.S. I am very remedial with electronics and automotive in general.
Sorry in advance, I did search, but couldn't find.

The Eprom emissions recall will be deleted when you put the markD chip in so basically like it never happened in the first place

      Thanks

I think I understand that, because the whole chip comes out and will be replaced by the Mark D chip. I'm just curious to know wether while I'm waiting for Mr D'Sylva to make some more chips, if it would help to get a stock chip that didn't have this emissions "flash".
Also just curious to know what the recall did to the EPROM.

Getting a stock chip for the dme is going to be useless as you'll replace it with another chip...so what's the point of doing that?

I don't think that refers to the chip. I believe the recall was due to a faulty ICV (idle control valve). If you look in your glove box there should be a control box (smaller than the motronic management box) with a green piece of tape around it to indicate it was recalled and replaced.

Nowhere does that tag mention anything about California. There are no different emissions systems on CA E30s than any other US E30s.

You're stressing out about recall work that was done 25 years ago. Buy a performance chip, install it, enjoy it.

He wants to install a chip but while he's waiting for one to be available he's asking if there's a performance difference between pre and post recall chips.

The only information I know of is a recall in regards to the ICV control box, however, not the engine management chip.

It is for CA smog but doesn't say what it was addressing so it could just be as simple idle AFRs

                Code:
                Bulletin Number Title Description Date
13 04 90 (3040) Recall Campaign 90E-A01 Failure of some 86 and 87 325e vehicles to comply with CA law. Change EPROM	July 1990

Thanks. I found that box. It's green plastic, but no tape.

Thanks whodwho, It does say change EPROM.
Seems like most emissions changes improve emissions at the expense of performance. That was my only reason for asking. Cheers.

I would, but I don't have room in my garage.

just get a after market chip. Your car will pass CA smog test anyways. My past two e30's passed on their own and both were 87's stock w/ OEM cats

That's my plan. I want the MarkD, but he is out of chips for the 027 DME for now. Unless anyone has one that I could buy. I don't want a pirated
"knock off" as I respect the time and creativity that it took to design the chip.
