    cone filter adapter

What is the best option for a cone filter intake / af adapter that isnt 140 bucks like the bavauto one

    #2
first ask yourself the question, why am I doing a cone filter? because if the answer is for increased horsepower, you're barking up the wrong tree. You're more likely to lose horespower from a cone filter on an E30.

otherwise, check ebay for cheap adapter kits.

      one reason - sound

do you get much intake roar with just the plates?

i am vey aware that it wont help much at all and in fact may loose power when in traffic... i will be fabricating a heat sheild tho

well if you use a heatsheild you will be okay. Sound is pretty much the only valid answer to that question, other than maybe ditching the factory AFM system altogether. :)

what do you mean by plates?

Sound is hardly noticable. The lenght the air has to go through is not long enough to resonate. If you had a long tube that stuck the filter somewhere else other that in front of the AFM, then you might get a louder intake noise.

The factory BMW Adapter is the best one, just buy one of an 83-85 E30 or E28 with the M20 engine in it. Before 86 BMW used a round inlet airbox for the AFM unlike the newer style where the AFM bolts right to the airbox. You can use one of these adapters and go buy a K&N filter at the local autoparts store and Eric Lukas's Heat shield and one be out maybe $60-$70.
If you want one of the factory adaptors I might have one I'll sell. PM me if intersted.

I assume he means the flat plate-like air filter...
