Battery Tray and Battery Expansion Tank??

I was going thru the car and the battery tray bolts are all rusted out.
I was curious to search what was going on belwo the tray and double check for rust. I couldn't take the bolts out and since under the tray it was always wet; decided to take it out (rip it appart) and found out that their is a expansion tank that suppose to capture the fluids from the battery (best guest) but this tank seems to be clog and the water under the battery tray couldn't flush out.
My question is, if with the new batteries (duralast) I still need this expansion tank or should I just plug the whole with a rubber plug? (Yes! I will get a new tray frorm the yard if not I will order it and not rust found)

If you vent the battery directly out of the car, you don't need it .

If it was leaking inside the car, that's probably a big contributor to
your rust, as sulfuric acid's pretty corrosive...

You REALLY do want to vent the battery to the outside, though, one way or t'other.

Well my bet is that the cooling system for your cars battery is shot. I would check on that. If you buy a new battery to replace the leaky one the new one will start having the same problems as the first if the cooling system is not working.
