Odometer Mileage Counter Stop Working =(

How does the e30 track mileage? Everything in the gauge cluster works except for the mileage tracking. My guess is something in the back of the car happen when i was replacing the rear trailing arm bushings. I removed the arms and left the subframe and everything in tact.....but now it stop working? Any ideas?

usually the culprit is the odo gears break....there is a set of plastic gears in the speedo and their nortorious for breaking

=/ It just doesn't seem like that would be the case since everything was working fine before I started "fixing" the car...I was afraid i disconnected something in the back?

it's most definitely the gears.

its an easy check...it only took me like 20 min to dig the cluster out of the dash the first time

There is a cable going into the diff. Check to see if it is disconnected.

"My 1984 325e speedometer unit was working and then eventually it became intermittent and eventually died. Driving over bumps and hitting the dash would revive it occasionally. It stayed this way until I was motivated to begin the diagnostic procedure.

Diagnosis/Symptoms:

Symptoms are that the speedo works when it was warm, like in the late afternoon after sitting in the sun all day or being blasted with the heater on for a long drive in cold weather.

Of course, some of the first things to check are the fuse for the instrument cluster and to remove the rubber boot from the speed sensor on the differential and remove the connectors, clean them, make sure the connection is tight and re-connect them and replace the boot."
