    AC blows warm

Recharged the AC after the total evacuation caused by the system's being dismantled and it was good. Compressor runs at 500 psi (per the guy that recharged it & said that was very good)

Now it blows warm. I pushed the valve in that was used to recharge it and gas escaped. Does it make sense that there would still be gas if there is a leak?

    500 psi!!?
Thats pretty damn high. Either it's way overcharged, or there is a blockage in the system.

      Clogged up expansion valve.

Clogged up the screen/filter in the intake of the compressor.

I'm calling the EPA on you.

Yea, something is clogged. Did they do a back flush on your system?

So it needs to be opened & cleaned? How many psi should there be?

I doubt the EPA cares about Mexico which is where I am, Hell thay can't habdle the work thay have in the U.S.

at around 85F you should have close to 95psi static pressure. Thats with the system off.

            Temp PSI
            80 -- 86
            85 -- 95
            90 -- 104
            95 -- 113
            100 -- 125

Thats a simple pressure sheet for R134A systems. I assume you converted while everything was open.....

No I did not. I am in mexico and R12 is cheap & readily available. I Put new o-rings in all connections that were taken apart.
Replaced the receiver/drier with a new one, added the proper amount of oil to the new drier. Pumped out the air (placed system under vacuum). Checked that vacuum held (no major leak). & Refilled with R12 and checked for leaks.

There were no issues and I went home.

I'll try and get the pressures for the R12 system, they arent too much off, about 5psi lower at the lower end of the scale, and about 10 lwer at the higher end.

Thanks. I am taking it back tomorrow but since the car was never sold here they don't have the system's specs & I want to give them all the info I can.

ok, here are the pressures for r12:
                    ambient temp - PSI
                    80-84
                    85-91
                    90-99
                    95-108
                    100-117

take the temp. measurments about 2" Infront of condensor. And those are the static pressures.

It appears the new receiver dryer I got was defective. Can anyone tell me which Ford/GM/Dodge current unit will fit? I do not have time to wait for parts from Germany (from BMW) or the US.

                        Thanks

I just got back from the shop and they insist the problem is the expansion valve at the evaporator. Does it make sense that it would die from opening the system? I really do not want to have to wait for a month, buy a 1600 peso part & have to rip the dash open.

                          Thanks

How long was the system open? if it was for an extended period, it could be clogged up. Its not hard to change, the dash can stay put, just take the glovebox out and some covers. They are fairly cheap here, too.

System was open about a week (at the condensor) I just found the valve, evaporator, and receiver dryer on BMA.com for 168.00 delivered. Problem is thats delivered to the States. I emailed Patrick for shipping here.

                              Thanks
