    windshield lock trim help

so the front windshield is the last thing i need to reinstall on my freshly painted car. before I ruin a good lock trim, I want to understand how you should start the installation?

Do I position the end of the trim right on the passenger windshield wiper pivot or do I start a little before it? I don't want the final piece that is the lock strip connecting the 2 ends of the trim to be off-center

Start at like 1/2" off center. For some reason when I've installed these things, I end up with a larger separation than the lock strip can cover. Maybe cause I compress it as I install it somehow.

Bavauto sells a lockstrip tool for $8 that helps a bit. I also suggest using plastic or nylon pry kit so you don't knick the paint.

Lastly, I use a dish wash soapy water combination spray bottle and keep the strip saturated the whole time.

i bought the tool and it does make the job easier. you would be wise to wait for a warm day or crank the heat in the garage as they are much more pliable when warm. and +1 on the dish detergent.
