Without using a scope, can I watch sensor output?

    On an E30? no.

    CAN is serial, so you'd need something to take it apart. A scope isn't much help for this.

    or maybe, BMW scanner 1.4? NCS Expert? You know, real automotive scan tools...

        I have an E36. I always forget to mention that.

        I will look at the actual sensor I am going for today and thanks for your help Dave! I have small Pomona leads with wicked long pins at the end I can use.
