    325iX Turbo manifold

My friend Pete (has an E30M50B28, E36S38B40, and an Evo8 that he's done all the swaps on himself) has commissioned me to find him a turbo manifold... for a 325iX
Now, considering the 325iX strut towers are 3" farther forward than a stock e30, I assume most M20 turbo manifolds will contact the tower.
Does anyone know of a turbo manifold (aside from us designing and fabbing it) that will work with a 325iX?

try talking to the turbo manifold wizards at proturbo.
if thiers doesnt fit im sure they can make one.

or you could just fabricate one that connects to the stock manifolds and bends around stuff, wouldnt be too hard.

or flip the manifold around so the turbo is down past the engine mounts next to the control arm. if it's a small enough turbo it will work without too much firewall modification. also, you can make an extension for whatever manifold you have so that the turbo can be moved around a bit...

      notice:

there's a flanged piece between the manifold and the turbo.. just custom make one to put the turbo where you need it. don't be afraid of the BFH or the angle grinder. they are your friend.

the problem isn't just the shock tower. remember, under the manifold and above the control arm is the passenger side half shaft.

However, it can be done. There have been several ix turbos that I've read about, one even posted on E30sport. No idea what manifold they were using, but I think your best bet is to get one custom made.

everything on the ix is expensive anyway, so you may as well do it right. ;)

i never even though about this but i have a td turbo manifold, which i think will work fine, but i'll have to fit it onto my parts car just to check.

it will need to be modified.

how so? seems like there is plenty of room in there, or is it the actual turbo that will be in the way?

he means the td manifold... a few of the bolts are placed differrently on the td head so a few of the bolt holes have to be slotted for you to bolt it ontot he M20 head. but th eports match up exactly.

oh thats already been done, too bad i am out of money right now, but i thought he meant it wouldnt' fit otherwise. i am contemplating selling the manifold and td crank and getting a project car that i can do an engine swap on :)....when u have no money in hands but have money in parts you can ponder stuff

The turbo diesel exhaust manifold is a real performance dog, a ball bearing turbo won't help spool-up times much when the manifold kills the exhaust pulses. I recommend reading "Forced Induction Performance Tuning" by A. Graham Bell before spending hard earned cash on components.

Below is a picture of the ProTurbo exhaust manifold, a work of art and for what I know it fits the iX (you better e-mail and ask them). Picking this manifold over the turbo diesel manifold could be the single most important factor that determines what kind of performance the complete system will yield.

If this manifold seems to expensive for you, ProTurbo makes an adapter for the original exhaust manifold that is much better than going for the turbo diesel manifold:

what about the euro 324td engine and manifold and intercooler and intake and the such wouldn't that help?
Another question one the saem lines turbo, has anyone ever done a td conversion?
I know power rules here but diesel is great.

                          Engine example: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...category=15316

Just curious, wouldn't mind seeing a 325tdx here.
