    ungh, problems

OK since it started getting cold my bimmer has been pissed off. It stalls at idle now. I was thinking it was a vaccuum leak, but it wouldn't idle rough, it would just stall out if I took my foot off the gas. but I don't know what it was cause it would only happen some time. like it would be straight for 20 min, then be shitty for 10 min, then be good again. so I don't know what the deal is

then last night the shit happened. it overheated. so I pulled over, and walked to the nearest gas station and bought coolant. come back, get the hood open, and the coolant is relatively full! so how did it overheat?

i topped it off, and drove the 3 blocks back to my parents house (luckily i was near them). by the time we got there, the car was overheating again!

how can it overheat if it is full of coolant?

and I thought the temp gauge tested the temp of the cooling system, like near the radiator or something. so if there's coolant in it,, what's the deal?

could it be the thermostat? I would assume that usually fucked up when it was HOT out, not cold.

    what's the word here?

I'm thinking it has to be 2 seperate problems. as to the overheating -i was thinking it could be the thermostat, but i dont think so. cause its so cold out, wouldn't it only fuck up when it's hot?

also, do you think the coolant is just clogged somehow?

either your thermostat is stuck closed or your waterpump is toast. I suppose something could be clogging it but your Tstat is a more likely target.

when's the last time you flushed your radiator?

I've only driven the car around 1,500-2000 miles since I bought it last may. I have an m20b25 head, I'm just waiting on that guy jayson@e30gumball.co.uk that rs4pro3 suggested to get back to me on pistons.
i didn't want to drive the car in it's current condition, so I just rode my kawi ninja most of summer. i always figured "i wont drive it till i do the 2.7i swap" but I've had to use it to get to and from work lately. I'll probably go flush that shit and start taking the car apart, and pray for pistons

sounds like ti could be the t-stat to me, too. i've had them go bad in cold weather, too. or as stated above, the water pump.

Yea, i was thinking, your problem is most likely a seized water pump, it would cause the stalling, overheating, and broken belt. DEFINITELY check that
