its really tough to compare different people's driving habits and resulting MPG, but I honestly thought M20s got better than is being reported.
The M30 with shitty mpg is whats getting me, I jsut dont get it. Bigger, more powerful motor in a lighter chassis=better mpg right?BEERTECH

The chipped (no other mods) 325es I'm currently driving gets 25mpg combined city/highway driving. Can't get it above 27mpg on the highway. Will go down to 14mpg around town if I drive like a douchebag.
3500lb 535's get shit gas mileage. No better than low 20s mpg on the highway. That's with longer gearing though. If any of the E30M30 guys are running stock E30M20 gearing, I wouldn't be surprising at the bad gas mileage.Comment

another argument for the m50 motors i guess
even stronger argument for rocking the m42 though lol
I can't really bitch about most E30s' gas mileage though. Manual M20s that don't have 300K+ miles and have been maintained properly get fairly good mileage. And M10/M42 cars serve their purpose well. A chipped M50TU would be the tits for a daily driven E30.Comment

i drove a 88 m3 out to NY earlier this year. when i drove out on the freeway the car was gettng about 25 or 26 mpg! But if you switch the OBC over to the other mpg setting [only reads when the car is rolling] then it was getting 36mpg  [yeah, 17yo OBC cant be too accurate]

My constant highway driving gets me around 24mpg. BUT I drive about 95mph for about one full hour straight. At least 85mph for about 2 hrs and about 70 for one hour. Also haul balls for about 20-30 miles all on one tank. This is what happens when you drive one hour to work and back at night every day of the week ;) If I hang around 70mph for all the highway driving and baby it for those 20-30 miles in town driving, I get around 26-28mpg on my m20b25 with 167k miles.
