Confirm my transfer pump is dead.

I just recently started getting intermittent power while accelerating on the freeway or up hills, i suspect one of the fuel pumps as the culprit. I removed the back seat and transfer pump cover and with the car on I can hear fluid moving through the pump. When i disconnect the connecters nothing changes, I still here the other pump whining and the fuel moving through the transfer pump. Does this confirm the transfer pump is dead? I'd appreciate the help.

If you fill the tank and it improves, I can confirm it's your transfer pump.

    Or maybe the pickup screeen...

My transfer pump was dead when I bought my car, but I never noticed any real problems caused by this performance wise. Still, I replaced it. I don't think the transfer pump contributes much, and mainly just makes life easier for the main pump. If you disconnect the wire running to it, and you don't notice any change in the noise coming from that area, it is probably dead.

I suspect if you are losing power though, it is probably the main pump or some other issue. Might as well check your fuel filter while you're at it, and check with a multi-meter to make sure the transfer pump is getting power.
