No no no. I got the car with its second engine already in it. The second engine was bad though, so I just got a new one. So right now, the car has its 3rd engine, which is from a 87 325i... The wiring harness is either from the 1st or 2nd engine, not sure which one because I don't know if the previous owner got a new wiring harness when he swapped in the 2nd engine...
Dont know if this makes much sense...

Try a 1987 wiring harness, or recheck the wiring.

I am doing an e to i swap and I have a 1987 325, in order for me to hae a direct swap I must use a 1987 wiring harness, and if I wante to use one from a different year some wires need to be spliced. Make sure all the correct wires are spliced, or try a 1987 wiring harness if you can?

    Not sure.

    Goodluck
There are so many wires to trace back... I really doubt its a bad wire..

The post was in reply to the poster above me talking about checking the ignition switch. If the switch is faulty, you can bypass it by running a wire to the coil like I said.
Just a little project im working on

Now I understand. Does the harness have a C191 connector?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Where can I check for that?

Follow the branch of the harness that goes to the injectors. If the harness is from an 88 or later there will be a round connector between the engine harness and the injectors.

See, this is coming down to the wiring harness. There are different harnesses for different year cars, as well as for the e and i motor.

Alright so the car JUST got home today! I was really fed up with a friend that was trying to help me, so I just got it towed back home.

I'll be sure to check the bosch serial on the edu when I get back from work, and see if I can go from there.

Also, does anyone know what the green/brown wire coming from the three fuses(picture below) is for? I believe it's something to do with the oil sensor? If it's not hooked up right now, might that be the problem why the car doesn't start?

There should be no loose wires associated with the three relays under the circled cover. The wires for each relay go into a vinyl sleeve and the three sleeves go into a larger vinyl sleeve that becomes a part of the engine harness.

Do you know where I could find out what the wire is for? Is there something that could tell me where that wire goes and what it does?

The wiring diagrams at http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm should help

So a few mechanics have backed out of helping me out with my problem, and I finally found the guy that I KNOW is going to get this car running.
Spoke to John(JParkr) from Accuracy Automotive and he said that he himself isn't great with electronics, but knows a close friend who is. Turns out, his close friend is James, the site owner, and he's coming over to my house this Tuesday! Pretty stocked to meet the guy and see his e30!

I'm super interested in whatever you might figure out. So please post the problem once you get it. I'm in a similar situation. I have a new wiring harness from a 87 325e same as the one that originally was on it but I'm still not getting a spark.

Asked him how much it's going to cost for him to take a look at it..
His reply: "Like $50 and a case of beer".. I laughed a bit at that response haha...
