    Aux fan operation

I recently rebuilt my a/c system; rebuilt compressor, dryer, condenser. I tested the aux fan by jumping it, and both speeds work. when I press the a/c switch on I get no fan. Does the aux fan come on when the system is NOT charged? the blue light also doesn't illuminate.

    thanks.

If the snowflake button doesn't light when the button is in, the switch could be bad, the switch on the slider could be bad, the fuse blown, or there could be a wiring fault. Well I guess that the bulb in the switch could be burned out. But in most cases it will be an electrical problem and the aux fan isn't going to run.

I can't remember if all of the sliders have a switch, but I know the middle one does.

it was working before I rebuilt the system. I changed the switch and the bulbs just to see maybe it was burnt out. No deal. double checked the fuses. they seem fine.

as the a/c button and fan was on high I went to see if power was going to the low and high fuse and the light tester didn't come on.

Get the wiring diagrams from http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm. Find where power is supplied to the HVAC controls and follow that to find the fault.

well, for the life of me I never realized the middle slider on the heater control activated the a/c switch to illuminate and to turn the aux fan on...When i pushed it passed mid point the light switch turned on. thanks for everyone's input.

Its amazing how many people are not aware of the slider function when I believe its actually in the owners manual (not like everyone has one, but still).

I just hope you didnt rebuild your AC system only to find out it was the slider :-)

yeah, I've like had 14 of these cars and I'm like DUH!! but not all of them have this function. my 325is works as soon as I push in the a/c button.

I've been restoring my car so the a/c was pooched before I did the work. My system was contaminated with black death so I just got new stuff. didn't cost me much for the parts. maybe 250-300 in total for powder coating and new bottle and condenser, oil, and seal kit for the comp. :-)
