Weird idel only while car is rolling

Im gonna try my best to describe this so yall can help me out with this. If I roll up to a stoplight and put my car in nuetral my car will jump to 2000 RPM and bounce in between 1700 and 2000 RPM. When the car comes to a complete stop the idel drops back to a steady 1000 RPM. The idel only jumps when Im rolling. Could this have something to do with my power steering belt, or maybe my T-body? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What ECU do you have? I had this problem when I had a 153 in my car, and if virturally disapeared when I put a 173 in. Otherwise id say check the tightness of the throttle cables and and the make sure the throttle plate is going closed all the way when it springs back.

Im not positive on what ecu I have. Its the stock one on my 1987 325is. Are you saying to tighten up my throttle cable if there is any slack in it at all?

If they are loose, then tightening wont hurt, if they are too tight and not allowing the butterfly to close the entire way, or just not enough to go back to the idle side of the TPS, then that could be the problem. Really it sounds like the ecu is just fussing, as most non 173s do.

My car does the EXACT same thing, only when I stop it still idles between 1700-2000rpm.. usually takes a good rev, or just a few minutes to go back to 800rpm or whatever it idles at... I think this problem may have something to do with why I'm running so rich, as well as why sometimes my car just won't start... I'll leave it for 10 minutes, come back and it starts right up... There's gotta be somethin wrong.. anyone??

a steady 1000rpm idle is not normal. check your ICV, and clean it out with carb cleaner. there are many other things that can cause wierd idles though, best thing to do is get a Bentley manual and go through the diagnostics.
