    Blower only works on high

I have a '91 318is, and the blower only works on high. I suspect that the rotary switch has failed. Is this fairly easy to replace?

    resurface resistor coil pack contacts.

Replace resistor coil. $20 and make sure you get the correct one for early or late model 30

Thanks everyone. I was hoping to order before removing the resistor, but looks like I'll have to dig it out first. And my daughter was just getting used to working a/c ......

Is there a way to get at the resistor pack without accessing the box from the engine bay?

Steve, can I tell which resistor I need by VIN #, or do I have to dig out the resistor to make sure. It would be great to have the part before disabling the blower.

no . unless you want to pull the dash, and pull the blower/ac box inside the car

ha, dash will be easier than pulling the engine!

Just buy an S50 so it will be worth pulling the engine.

(you shouldn't have to pull the engine, it will take some finagling)

Yeah, no need to pull the engine. If anything, some pull the intake manifold to do the blower fan and/or wiper hardware

If I had an M20 I wouldn't need to pull the engine. My "problem" is that I have an s38 and its a little less accommodating against the firewall. Note sig. These are first world problems.

When this happened to me, it ended up being the brushes in the blower motor wearing out and not the resistor.

Would bad brushes cause the motor to run only on the high setting? I would have thought the brushes would have affected all speeds.
