    Stuck Sunroof Headliner

I replaced my sunroof panel and now my headliner does not want to slide all the way forward. It seems to be getting stuck on the passenger side on something...

How do I get my headliner back in place?

I'm trying to look at the diagram on RealOEM but the image is too small. Where can I find larger images of the diagrams found on RealOEM?

    Thanks!

    Figured out what it was.

One of the little plastic clips broke at the back of the liner that attaches to the track guide. #14 in the image above.

Yo, this sunroof shit is a pain in the ass. I've now taken this thing apart 3 times and it keeps getting messed up. Now I've ripped my liner and have to order clips. ugh

Well, I guess I'll do a write-up once I'm done. All the other write-ups on this are garbage. I've taken a cock load of pics. This job has my anger level at a solid 8 and a half! ....laughing now though... Life is pretty.

Yeah, lining up the headliner piece is quite the unexpected difficult task. Glad you figured it out!

That happened to me as well when taking the sunroof apart.

I hate anything related to the sunroof on these cars. Such a pain.

^ yeah, you can see it here in the bottom of the following link. It's strange that they call it a "supporting bracket". To me, it's a little plastic clip - but that's gotta be it.

                http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...54&fg=05&hl=24

Looking at part #7 in the above link, it looks like BMW has a complete liner/bracket assembly available. They list it as Grauz (grey) and Quarz (quartz). I'm not sure but I think I have quartz and it seems they are no longer available...

I just posted a thread yesterday, I can't get my headliner to slide back (I have unclipped the clips up front).

Do you have any thoughts, since you've done this a few times?

Not sure. But my guess is that you have rust pieces or something in the tracks preventing the headliner from sliding back... Either that or something is broken.

Have you gently wiggled it back and forth to try and get it to go? Just be delicate because those rear clips will break.

Below is a shot of the underside of the headliner so you can see what your working with. There are two tabs at the back that slide through a track mounted inside of your hood towards the back of the car - the RED arrow points one out. These need to slide unobstructed in order to get your headliner back and out of the way.

The PINK arrow points out the connecting rod (which can brake...)

...and the BLUE arrow points to those little plastic clips (one of which broke on mine - they seem delicate).

So, basically if there's an obstruction or a broken part - headliner no go slidey... :)

so is that black bar that the blue and red arrowed parts attach to supposed to move independently from the sliding headliner?

if one of those things is broken I assume Tue headliner has to come down to fix it?

Once my whole sunroof took a shit. Cables were coming through the headliner everywhere. Gawd such a pain in the ass. It's a lot easier than it looks though. Just have to do things you'll feel uncomfortable about doing. I.e. peeling your headliner back, fucking with guides & cables. Fun. Sunroof panel is pretty easy to remove. Just a couple torque screws, & the liner just snaps in the front then slides back.

Yeah. And I wiggled it up and down too. No dice. I should mention the reason that I'm taking the headliner off is to replace one of the Torx fasteners that the metal roof uses. It fell out.

I couldn't see anything broken, but I couldn't see very well.
