    water in gas?

While i was downtown Seattle my car was trying to die, like it would drop rpm to like 200, catch itself come back up, and repeat, idle was all over the place, even revved a few times. When I'd give it gas it would do the same thing. After one block of that it stopped.

    Any ideas?

Why would you think there is a water in gas?
Was it raining hard and your gas door and gas cap were missing?
    Some one played a joke?
Has it happen before and it was confirmed as water?

Sounds like dead fuel pump to me.

Also, if you still suspect there is water there, you gan buy one of those water eliminating products made by STP. Try it out see if it helps..

I thought it might have been water because it was only for a moment and gas had recently been filled and i had washed my car.

            could be the fuel.

I had the same thing happen to me once shortly after I filled my tank (within blocks). Turned out that the gas station sold me shitty gas and by morning my car had to be towed to have the frozen slushy shit pumped out of the tank. Warranty woudl not cover it so luckily the gas station fessed up and paid for the repairs. Came to about 1100 bucks considering the amount of time it took to remove the tank etc (this was on my 04 Volvo S60).
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

                  reg gas or higher grade?

Usually there' sless chance of problems with reg. as so many use it.
My prob. occured on mid grade and they just filled the tanks at the station before I filled my tank.

I doubt it is from water. I think it is mechanical failure. I'd start with the fuel filter. Friend had the same symptoms in his. He changed his fuel filter and his car ran for another 2 months until his pump took a shit.

My 84 318i used to stall going around a corner at the on ramp near my home. Id give it 20 seconds then off it went. I tried everything til one day I decided it could have water in the fuel. A dose of methyl hydrate (which is the active ingredient in gasline antifreeze only its $6\qt instead of $2\oz) and the problem was solved.

Since I bought the car in Tacoma this is geographically appropriate (did I really say that). Whats happens in cooler climates is that you leave your car in the garage with half a tank of gas and half a tank air....damp warm air. Go outside and you get condensation. In time its a problem.

Not to say this is the OP's problem, but water in the tank doesnt come from washing the car
