    Strange indicator problem

Hi guys I did a search but didnt find anything. My touring seems to have a problem with its indicators, this started the other day, indicating to turn right and it started flashing very quickly and making a strange buzzing noise (this appears to come from behind the dash). After it did that it had blown the fuse. After replacing the fuse, I was driving today and it worked perfectly for the first 5 or so minutes, and then all of the sudden the same erratic flashing and constant 'buzzing' sound. This appears to only be when indicating right. Anyone know what this could relate to? I google searched and couldn't find much at all other than a faulty glove box light (same circut I believe), mine was unplugged with a loose wire, so I plugged that back up, so that is eliminated?
    Any ideas would be appreciated,
    Cheers,
    Nick

Turn signal relay? Time to troubleshoot.

That's the first thing I thought of. Will have to get stuck into it tomorrow and start pulling shit apart. Just thought the strange noise may mean something. In saying that the noise is probably the relay?

        Relay.

Its in the lower half of the column under the plastic cover below the steering wheel. Pull the wheel off...easy to get to. Mine was going crazy I took it apart cleaned her up with some electrical cleaner and sand paper and its been good.

Cheers, I will pull it all apart tomorrow and give it a clean.
          Thanks for the reply!

UPDATE, just pulled off wheel, got to relay, cleaned all contacts and sanded contacts put back in and went for a drive. Nothing has changed but the problem seems to happen only driving quickly (sounds insane) but as the car is quicker the buzzing is really bad and indicator really very erratic, but slow down to say 30-40kph and seems back to normal? I assume there must be something fishy in the wiring, as 15 amp fuse blows straight away (fuse 4) I have 30amp in it now (needed it to get back to home without someone up my arse) And it still makes the buzzing noise but doesnt blow fuse.

I guess I will check right hand globes again, just to be sure. Any other suggestions guys?

Excessive load on the flasher module can cause this and can cause the fuse to blow. There may be a partial short in the wiring or lights.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Do you think it would be in the lights or just flashers themselves as it happens with/without the lights on? Just asking as I have no idea. May pull everything back apart tomorrow. I may have a better look at the relay harness that it plugs to, as I was concentrating mainly on the relay also?

I did not remember this on my first post, but a fault in the hazard warning switch can cause the buzzing and fast flash, as can a fault in the turn signal switch.

If you look at section 6313 of the ETM (http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm) you will see that there isn't a whole to the circuit). Disconnecting the hazard switch isolates the wiring to the lights from the rest of the circuit. And that provides a convenient spot to check resistance to ground for the left and right light circuits.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Maybe posting a video would help? My old e30 made the same noise you speak of after a head on collision lol. And it's only the right turn signal correct, the left one works normally?

May do that, as I had a massive hit to the rhs when a motorcyclist turned in front of me a while back so may be related

Upload a video so we can all see what's going on. Here's a video of my "mystery buzz" in my old Zinno...It started immediately after the accident in addition to the rapid one sided indicator problem (not in the video).

Check grounds at the lights and the turn signal FLASHER. It's not a relay. Really the only way to check the flasher is to just replace it. they are only a few bucks and any auto parts store will have one.

Mystery buzz sounds just like the blower motor cage rubbing against the plastic cover, do you have your recirculation button pressed? Blower spins at very low speed when its pressed.
