    Steering Shimmy @ Highway Speeds

Hey guys, just got my e30 (89 325i) and I'm brand new to the forum. What can I say, the car has plenty of little things wrong with it, but I love it to death and plan on keeping it for a long time.

So at about 65 mph and up, the car pulls slightly to the left and the wheel shakes very noticeably. What are the first things I should be replacing? I was just planning on tie-rod ends, ball joints, and getting an alignment. Should I be inspecting control arm bushings also?

Inspect all of the front suspension parts and replace any with wear. If a high mileage car that will probably mean strut inserts, upper strut mount, spring pads, control arms, tie rods (both ends), and control arm bushings. The rear suspension probably needs shocks, shock mounts, spring pads, trailing arm bushings and subframe bushings.

Then have an alignment done. Only front toe is adjustable, but the alignment machine will tell if there camber errors on the front wheels or camber/toe errors on the rear wheels from damage to the suspension.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I had a similar shake at highway speeds and found toasted ball joints. I agree with jlevie; inspect the front end carefully and you'll probably find a ton of stuff you'll want to replace.

        Sounds good.

Yeah the odometer is locked at 178k, and it's probably been that way for awhile. The car takes bumps really well and rides as smooth as silk below 60 mph, so I'll leave new shocks till later.
