Weird Noise, Need Help Diagnosing. (Youtube video attached)

So strange noise coming from the rear of my car. Only happens when I let off the gas or just let the car creap ahead while giving it no gas. Please take a listen to this youtube video. In this vid I am in second gear letting the car pull itself along giving it no gas. If i give the car gas the noise stops. No shakes or vibrations coming from anywhere. Any ideas?

Don't watch the movie, you'll get dizzy, i was moving the phone around trying to get it to the best place for you to hear the noise. You may need earphones to hear it. Sounds like a frog ribbitting.

Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move.

I don't know what noise it is (no speakers) but does it sound "squishy" or watery? I've got some weird noise coming from my rear as well

            Sounds like differential.

I suggest that you try taking out the lower back seat, open the oval cover on the right side, and run her down the street. This way, you'll be hearing the fuel pump and all that slush. If its not the pump, then its probably your differential or your trans-differential.

Fuel pump is fine. I had an inclination it would be the rear diff. After I bought the car I noticed that the diff was caked in a nice oil and dirt mix. This past week I scraped the crud off and degreased the whole thing. After my drive around the block i checked under the car and felt the bottom of the diff with my finger. Fresh oil on my finger. That main seal must be shot. This noise must be caused by the lack of oil and the potential damage I have most likely caused. I first noticed this noise at the end of a trip to Maine 3 hours up, started making the noise about 2 hrs into the 3 hr trip back.

Question 1: Can I open the diff without removing it from the car?
Question 2: Could it make this noise just by being low on oil? (This is my first project car. I'm most familiar with snowmobiles and dirt bikes)
Question 3: Must I stop driving immediately? (I'm assuming answer is most likely yes)

your diff wouldnt make nose due to no oil, only makes noise because of bad bearings / worn spiders/ things like that,(due to running no oil) not like how if your powersteering pump is low on fluid it whines and you fill it and its quiet type of thing. it sounds like its just in its beggining stages, so if you pay attention to it you should be able to baby it for a while, ive had one lock on my 240 and it was scary shit, like i pulled my emergency brake on the highway unannounced but it was growling like a pack of wolves were in my trunk. not that little clunking that you have.

Was that video taken while driving? And if so was it on a level smooth road and at what speed?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The video was taken on a level road, 2nd gear, not pressing the gas at all just letting the car drive itself.

I checked, oil level is full and proper in the rear diff.

Car under acceleration makes NO NOISE.

Noise is heard when letting off the gas and at low speeds.

No weird shaking, nothing you can feel, just the noise you hear.

That might be the result of wear in the differential. Get the car on a lift and duplicate the conditions. If it is the differential it should be obvious.
