I personally have nothing against the M10, just as far as getting NA power out of it is a waste of time, for the money you are going to spend--- for an E30 IMO, and like I said, i am no one. actually, they are dinosaurs, and get crappy gas milage too. but I did beat the crap out of one for a whole year and a half, and couldnt kill it, but finally took it out, threw it in the trash, and put an M20 2.7i in the car-- much better, and it only cost me about 500-600 dollars. so get 180-190 horses out of a M10 for that much!

ohh, and just for info-- I remember that here in germany, early E21 320 cars came with the 2.0 M10, but after a few years, the 320 was a 4BBL carbed M20.
So your frame of reference is a beat down m10. I think good&tight averages 31mpg. And don't come at me like a tough guy.

Im not trying to come at anyone like a tough guy, just trying to give some of my info/experiences with BMWs to the community.
you were the one calling me "mikey"
I have yet to own a 4 cyl. bmw that gets better gas mileage than a 6cyl. --maybe its my driving style, maybe all of mine were just "beat down" just my experience.
plus this thread isnt about gas mileage.

Jimlab, 200 horses is completely unrealistic for said engine. Strokers with 84mm M3 cranks, regardless of cam/carb setup will be tough to get 160hp at best. You're talking about a worked up M10 making the same power an S14 makes stock. Building up an M10 will get some power, but don't expect much past 150 or so, with a stroker (2.2-2.3), high compression, properly worked head/cam, and good tuning/exhaust. Perfect to build for a car that has to run the M10, or like Terry's vintage racer. Otherwise, I'd do a swap, 318/6 if it's an E30, 2502 if it's an '02 ;)

"approx. 160hp" That's with a 2.0L crank, mild cam, and stock crappy FIS. With a megasquirt set-up or dual 48 DCOE's, a more aggressive cam and higher compression, I have to imagine you would be making significantly more power.
