7000 RMP Cluster plus RMP chip

I have a 1985 325E that maxes out at 5000RMP. My question is will the 7000 RMP cluster from a 325I snap right in. If i get the RMP chip i am guessing it would make a difference and redline at 7000 but i am not sure. Can someone point me in the right direction and help me get my car to redline higer

    RPM?

it will work but you will need the coding plug from your cluster. also, there really is no point on having a 7k tach with a motor that maxes out at 5k.

          RPM?

no, the chip is not going to raise your RPMs to 7000. the eta motor is just not capable of that. single valve springs, 5 cam journals, small valves, etc. etc. limit what the motor is capable of.

            Theoretically I'm sure it could.

            For about 15 seconds.

It might make it just before if barfs the valve train through your hood and propels a valve through a piston crown. :)

                Indeed.

A stock eta engine (with a unlimited chip) could rev to about 5800 or so absolute max before valve float would cause piston/valve contact.

Its a economy car man, not a hotrod. Buy a 325iS or something...

if you've got some mechanical aptitude, make a 2.7i.

however i will divulge no details on how to make one.

You could swap an I head onto the E block with a little modification to the head, or put I valve springs and an I cam into your E head, once again, with slight modification. Either way, without a lot more, you aren't going to make much more power.
