    engine problems

Car started missing, idles erratic until warms up, burned oil smell in the cabin, check engine light came on once, noise coming from the front of the engine like something is wobbly. Can it be the oil tensioner?

you know, it tensions the oil.

the oil tensioner keeps the viscosity of the oil down to exactly 0w-20 like it should be at all times. when it's cold and even when it's hot.

I think he (assuming its a he) means the timing belt tensioner. If that has lost its tension then there is a chance that the belt has jumper a tooth or three on the gears that it rides upon. That will definately cause some potentially serious issues.

Best thing to do is take the time to do a very good visual inspection. Idle issues on the M20 are commonly caused by vacuum leaks. A prime candidate for these leaks is the big black boot that goes to the Throttle Body / Intake . Inspect it for cracks and drying out. If even the smallest of cracks can be seen with an eye with no clothes on it (naked) then replace it immediately. Plugs - how old? Cap and Rotor - when last replaced?

Lots of variables ... Its the chicken and the egg. Does the poor idle cause the engine to shake or does the engine shake cause the poor idle.

There is no substitute for taking the time to diagnose the issue. Nobody on this forum has a crystal ball and without even seeing or hearing the engine in the car then its all just possible issues that "may" be something to consider.

I thought that was done by the headlight fluid???
