    TPS help

Hey guys, my car is acting up and I think it's my TPS because at WOT the engine just dies down, as if I lifted the throttle.

Anyhow, I'm getting a potentiometer to find out the idle and WOT resistances so I can adjust it. Does anyone know what are the default volts in the WOT and idle setting?

    Thanks,
    Erick

I ran the ECU fault code and I got 1-2-2-2 (Lambda Control 1). Replaced the o2 right now and nothing.

Check fuses. I had a similar issue, turned out to be a blown 15A fuse, can't remember the number though.

      Keep it slideways!!

I'm pretty sure the TPS is just an on/off switch, it doesn't have a resistance range like a potentiometer or anything. in any case definetly check on it, and also check your injector harness for corrosion (the plug is right under the throttle body). you can also drive with your TPS disconnected to see if the issue goes away (your idle won't be correct, however).

The issue goes away when the TPS sensor is disconnected. I'm lost now, wtf does this mean?

My friend and I are reading the Bentley to try to figure this out.

Nando is correct, the e30 tps is just an on/off switch. Usually its 5v and like, 1v or something.

Just thought id throw that in there.

Yeah we figured it out. We got a new TPS in and we got it working properly now, thanks to the potentiometer. The engine keeps getting flooded because it's running so rich tho, and that's problem #2. It's 4:17am and we'll deal with in the afternoon.

it means your TPS is bad (or the wires are shorting), but you probably figured that out by now. but make sure to check for corrosion in the injector harness like I mentioned, if your throttlebody coolant hoses/gasket are leaking at all they will drip right into the harness, and it can cause the same symptoms as a bad TPS.

We replaced it last night. Havent had a chance to crank it since the engine was flooded. We just put in some new plugs tho so after lunch break we'll fire it up.
