sounds like it. you can actually fix the motor, it's just that the grease inside gets hard and full of gunk so the contacts don't work quite as well. but it's easier to just replace it.

cool thanks! was hoping it was something as easy as a relay somewhere....guess I'm not that lucky!

judging by one of the writeups this looks like a PITA to replace...ugh...i hate winter wrenching

it's really not that bad. figure maybe an hour. use a ratcheting 10mm wrench since you can't see and it's tight. it's just 1 plug and a few bolts. the trick is to remove the plastic cover before trying to take out the motor. It will deform when you pull it out but that's OK. zip tie the cover back to the motor when you're done.

Just recently I replaced the entire wiper linkage, blower motor, etc. I'd already done the wiper motor. Out of those three jobs the blower motor was the biggest pain. the wiper linkage was much easier than everyone made it out to be. I spent 5 minutes on the linkage and about 2 hours on the blower motor (partially because I had to repair one of the flapper doors).

thanks for the tips! i found the blower motor pretty simple to replace, but its' always the easy jobs that end up being a PITA! btw do recommend a place to order a new/remanufactured one? or should i just source a used one. I'm gonna look up part #s/pricing etc now....

yeah, it's not worth doing used, any 20+ year old motor is going to end up being worn. basically after 20+ years in the PNW, my entire wiper system was pretty well shot thanks to 8 months of rain a year.

I used to have problem with my wiper then found out how hot the wiper replay could get. I took the relay cover off and drilled a bunch of small holes in it for vent. It has been working fine ever since.

that might be why mine started to act up the other day. It acted up shortly after a torrential downpour, so i clicked the wipers to full speed. When i kicked it down to slow, thats when it started to pause when it would go up. Wonder if changing the motor will make any difference if that's the case. At the moment it seems to be working fine.....but have the new motor ready.

there are 2 million E30s that have a wiper relay without holes drilled into it. sounds like your relay is going bad.

On my list to replace, but it has not acted up in nearly a year since I drilled those holes.
