318 home made intake maifold

well guys, found this wacky set up today,
it was mounted onto a 318iS US model.

looks like a home made intake manifold, webber carb and holley afpr.
guy never finished project at it was not properly bolted down.

just thinking out loud here, but, what if this mods were implemented, say ...

- this thing or a 6 cyl version of it had ports for injectors.
- then leave afm potentiometer board wired but not regulating air flow.
- somehow connect tps to carb.
- run carburator dry so it would act as a afm.

So where's the "air flow meter" part of the AFM come in? Way I see it, you'd basically be building the fuel injected engine BMW already made, minus one of the most important parts: the part that tells the engine how much fuel to give itself.

Just throw that thing away and put the right parts on it.

Give me a little while to think about that. That manifold looks really really familiar. I've thought about ditching the F.I. on my 318i a couple times. I think I am going to go the megasquirt way. So I can get rid of that piece of crap AFM as well. Good luck.

That motor looks like an M10. They had an M10 powered 318is in North America?

don't have a engine to mount it to, but could not let it get crush just like that.

your are right, research it a little further and it sure is a M10, perhaps guy trew it into his 318. badge on back said 318iS, my bad, as those had plastic bumpers and m42 engines (i think).

318 / M10 were available up to 8/85 for S market., or so says on here...
