For those of you who have removed a cam from a 325i head, how did you do it without the factory tool? I want to remove the one from my parts car to sell, and I don't care about the rest of the head at all, I am going to throw it away. How can I easily remove the cam?

If you are talking about an M50 head then you do really need a special tool and I'm not really sure about it.

M20 is easy. Pull the clips up off of the rockers, push them to the sides so they are off of the cam lobes, drive the rocker shafts out with a long rod and hammer, then take off the cam sprocket and the end cover in the front and the cam will slide right out.Adam Fogg- '88 M3

Once you've removed the clips, the rockers can be moved off the lobes as already mentioned, but you'll need to rotate the cam periodically for those rockers that are loaded by the cam lobes.
Once all of the rockers are off, you can use a spare 1/2" socket extension to drive the rods out of the head if you're not going to reuse them. When the rockers are out, remove the sprocket. This can be done by using an old peice of timing belt wrapped around the sprocket and clamped with vice grips so that the sprocket doesn't move while you remove the cam bolt. You can also use an old leather belt.
Important thing is not to slide the rockers off the lobes when they are under any amount of load from the cam lobes, or you'll damage the lobe of the cam.Driving is the only way to go faster....
