fuel gauge is being strange

my fuel gauge often rises up and then down again randomly.

When it's running on empty it will go below the red zone to the white stripe BUT when i try and fill it to a full tank there's still 10 litres in the damn tank!

any solutions?

Tighten the nut on the back of it

What Vivek said... and also clean up the grounding nut/washer before you tighten it. If that doesn't work, next do a search about your fuel sender/sensor (and difference between late model/early models). And if you have to tap your instrument cluster to get your fuel gauge to work, then read a thread about restoring a solder flow to a joint in your cluster.

Simply tightening the grounding nut is the easiest and most common solution.
