    Fuel leak

At a stoplight today I smelled a little fuel, and sure enough when I got home I saw some around the main fuel line right where it connects to the FPR.

If I take this hose off, whats going to happen? Just some gas pouring out? The line is really detiorated right where it connects to the FPR, so it looks like if I took it off and cut off half an inch, I'd be alright. It doesn't look like there is much slack for me to work with, but there should be enough to cut off the shitty part and reinstall it.

there shouldn't be gas in that line, its a vacume line that opens the FPR to let in more fuel or less fuel.

Mike, i think he means on the fuel side not the vacuum side.

If the line is rotten at the end, it's rotting throughout. These are old cars and the rubber is in need of replacing all around. You might be able to get away with the trim, but I'd recommend buying 8 to 10 feet of high pressure fuel line and replacing them both. Why risk a failing fuel line? Yes you'll loose a little fuel out of the lines but you won't end up siphoning the tank dry or anything.
      Let's go exploring!

Are you talking about the line that goes from the intake manifold to the FPR? Or the one that is the return line from the FPR to the tank? If its the one from the FPR to the tank, take out the fuel pump relay and turn on the car till it dies. Then take the hose off. SOME fuel WILL come out. But not much at all. Then cut off a little bit and see if you can put it back on and tighten it back down. If you have troubles, let us know ;)

my return line went on me a couple of months ago. you dont have to take out the fuel pump relay, i just let the car sit for a bit and pulled it off (you might have to pull the injectors if you dont feel you have enough room) and no gas leaked out, maybe just a couple drops. easy 15min $2 fix.

Just find a spot in the fuel system (one of the easier accesible lines) to disconnect and release pressure from the system. I just grab a paper towl, and a can, and soak it all up. Then just have a towl on hand wherever you work. I had to replace all the fuel lines on the red car - it was a bitch - but it was nice to know that's it done, and should be fine for a long time! :)

Cause its so hard to pull fuse number 11 and crank the car. Its better than potentially splashing fuel everywhere when you pull the line off. Matter of fact I just did this this morning.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just pulled the line this morning and not a single drop of gas came out. I cut 1/2" off the line and to be honest it was only the tip that was deteriorated, the rest of the line was fine. Pushed the line back on and there is no more leak.
