You realize this is way more than just widening the car body, right?. You will also have to widen the front and rear subframes, get longer tie rods, longer half shafts, deal with the fuel tank mount, widen the hood, trunk, &grill, widen the bumpers, get a custom made windshield, rear glass and seals, do something with the dash, adapt the HVAC system, get custom made parking brake cables, modify the wiper mechanism, and extend wiring that runs across the car.
The transmission tunnel should be untouched, as the transmission support, CSB, and the rear cross member depend on that dimension. If you extend those you could splice in the width along the tunnel. Other wise you'd have to splice a piece in on each side of the tunnel
That seems to me to be an awful lot to do, and especially to do well. I think it would be easier and yield better results to make a tube frame chassis and graft modified body panels on.
Neither approach is likely to yield a satisfactory street car.Leave a comment:

so that said, i want to widen the car, not just with M fenders or arches, widen the car to 73" ( the width of the e31 ) a stock coup is 65.4", that's 7.6" over stock & 3.8" on either side of the trans tunnel, ( i have read not to cut into the tunnel, i will research this further ) that is welded in material most likely from a donar...
