I successfully repaired my late model switch today by opening it up and soldering the connection between the terminal and the internal contact. Looks like they are just stamped onto each other and when one of them becomes open and stays that way, the brake lights won't function. Sorry I didn't take any pics but the fix is straight forward. This is for the black plastic switch with the plunger and not the early metal style. To remove/install, depress the brake pedal, pull the red or white plastic casing outward and undo the clips with flathead driver or pliers and the switch will come out from the pedal assembly. I realize a new switch can be had for anywhere between $4-25 but it's a simple fix for a simple switch and that's $4-25 that'll remain in your pocket for something else.
