Just want to get rid of it? Unplug the wire going to the a/c clutch coil.

sounds like the clutch on the compressor could be going bad. My gf's car did that when the ac clutch was going out. If that is the case you need a new compressor.

The part where it only does it if recirc is not on makes it seem like it's not a compressor problem to me. Try another switch.

recirculation activates two servo motors which close 2 plastic doors on the outside of the heater box.. Sounds like when they are open something is rubbing on the blower motor.

Can you get it to make the sound with the ignition on but without actually running the engine? Without the noise of hte engine you should at least be able to narrow down exactly where this clicking is coming from, if it's the fan inside the dash or the clutch on the compressor, or something else entirely...

What's happening in this dude's case is the one of the plastic doors is stuck and thus unable to open when the recirculate button is closed. Take out your radio and you will see a little road connected to a "flap" moving as it tries to open. You can either disconnect it or play with it and see if you can get it to work or you can replace the servo.

                Good luck.

that's great in theory, but it keeps the a/c motor running and pwnz my battery after 4-5 days

it shuts of and turns on whenever it damn well pleases. some nights, id turn the car off, itd click for 30 seconds then stop. other nights, turn the car off, went right off with it and then the next morning, id go out to the car to find it clicking.

This is the problem I am having as well and e9nine's response seems spot on. It is def not the ac clutch. The flap motor seems to want to open one of the flaps but due to it being stuck, the motor just keeps turning and clicking (skipping plastic gears).

So all I need to do is remove my radio and I should be able to see the flaps and whatnot?

So this problem can cause the blower motor to stay on constantly when the car is on? Cause that is another issue that I am having... even if the AC is set to "off" so no air should be coming out of the vents, there is air coming out of the vents...
