No instrument cluster = Okay to turn on and drive car?

I would like to take my time to remove the instrument cluster to fix the broken odometer but I have a very busy schedule so I would like to take it out and still be able to drive the car without it going haywire and throw codes and cause lights to come on..

Will having the cluster out cause any problems when turning on or driving?

for a short time, but your battery will die because the alternator doesn't work without the exciter wire being hooked up to the cluster.
