    E30 heater recall valve

    Is this valve designed to shut off flow to the core at a certain temp (240degrees?) Im pretty sure thats the point of it, so peoples legs dont get hit with hot water if the core decides it wants to pop....

    Reason I ask is, when my S50 swap wasnt bled correctly and my fans were barely cooling anything, It got a bit hot a few times and during that time the heater in the car didnt work

    It was probably air pockets in the system that weren't letting the coolant flow in the heater core. Euro cars never got that valve, so I am pretty sure that it was somethng to do with keeping peoples legs from getting splashed with hot water and a court case coming up.

      Yeah I read an article about it.. Some guy with a benz got burned and started a big lawsuit so BMW put these valves in as a precaution but the lawsuit never came to fruition so it was all a waste of time

        Those valves had a tendency to stick closed, especially after many years. Best to throw it away.
