Yes! smoothing the car from all small dents and a respray same color; how much of a value will bring to the overall car? (engine, suspension and interior already sort it out)

Its not obvious that a respray will bring any value and depending totally on what you start with and how much you spend you could lose money.

I'd predict you losing money every single time before you gaining money through a sale.
But paint the car, the world needs more fresh paint jobs.

If you are doing it to add value, its not worth it. If you are doing it to make you happy, and not gain any financial benefit, go for it.

As someone who recently bought an e30 after a fairly long search, I can say that I generally preferred cars with original paint, because a respray can hide faults. If your paint needs it, then go for it, but if the original paint can be brought back to life with a professional polish, then I'd imagine that would add more value, and cost less. Whatever you do, document it. As a buyer, I always feel more confident buying something that is well documented.
            Just my two cents...

if you strip it down do the body work if needed properly, and then shoot it in the factory color with Glasruit(sp), I dont think why it would not increase the value, now if you going to do a Macco job and rub it with liquid sander, it will hurt you, it's like adding another color on top of the 6 coats of repaints to a classic vette and then taking it to Barrett-Jackson, not good,

Taking it down to bare metal and using OE "Glasurit" paint is not cheap no matter who your friends are and there is only so much "value" the market will bear for a non-M e30 (or should I also say non Touring). No one is saying it wont add value but the point is that that extra value will be no where near what it costs to do

This is something you do for yourself and if some day you get to recover a good share of what you spent and had fun in the meantime then thats as good as it gets IMO. If you are doing it for profit, I think there are much better investments.

I'm not talking a strip to bare metal, restoration I'm talking knocking down the old clear, removing the old dead dry paint, pulling the bumper's doing a quality paint job, hence my "macco job" terminaology.

I don't reccommend dropping it at a place and telling them you want a 5K paint job on a 2K car,

but a quality independant body shop will be better in the long run for resale to a enthusiest then a so called "chain" job half assed prep, tape, shoot job,

One of the beauties of this forum is that we can agree to disagree. Another one is that its your car and your money and you can spend it anyway you want to.

You asked for opinions and you got them. Enjoy your car :-)

As someone who's going to probably get a respray this summer, this thread is of interest. My Delphin is horrendously faded and really terrible in spots. I think anything would be better than what it is now. If your paint is in that situation and you get it resprayed, it WILL add value. Whether or not that value is monetary is questionable. YOU will value the car more now that it would look nice and fresh but it might not necessarily increase the car's financial worth. It's up to you, ultimately, to decide. I'm getting a respray for me. I can't bear to see my car suffering with it's terrible paint, so I will get it repainted. This will make me much happier and I will value my car that much more. If it happens to increase the resale value, then hey... cool!
