    Speedo suddenly reading low

I was driving along with cruise on and suddenly cruise cuts off and at the
same time 55mph is suddenly only 42-44mph. cruise will not work anymore
the econometer only swings back and forth.

i pulled the speed sensor and it looked good as did the connectors going to
it. plus the speedo has to be receiving some kind of signal for it to work
    all.

here is the thing though. i pulled the cluster to check for bad gears, burnt
connections, ect.... all the gears are in good shape no broken teeth or
anything even the odometer gears and my odo has never worked.

no obvious burnt spots and i did not go through the whole checking for
cracked solder deal(id rather just get a new cluster) and have no means to
reflow solder anyway. all the connections to the cluster were in good
    condition.

so is it a speed sensor going bad in stages or the all-too-common bad
    circuit connections in the cluster?

if it is the cluster would there be any way to make the cruise work with an
    aftermarket speedo?

Most likely failed speedometer or cluster circuits. Either replace the speedo or have it fixed. I can test and repair/replace your speedo.

any way to get a good aftermarket speedo and wire up the cruise control straight into the speed sensor signal to get it to work?

it would be nice to have a speedo and odo that i know will work and won't fail on me plus having the cruise still work

Your odometer and speedometer will work flawless if you have them rebuilt. However, if you wanted to go after market, you could connect your CC wire to the speed sense wire, which is brown/red in the white connector.
